GOVERNMENTAL GAAP GUIDE - MILLER REVIEWTHIS GUIDE IS EXCELLENT FOR THE USE OF THE PRESENTATION OF GENERAL-PURPOSE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. IT GIVES DETAIL EXPLANATIONS OF HOW INFORMATION SHOULD BE PRESENTED. THE EXAMPLES GIVEN ARE WRITTEN IN A WAY THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WITHOUT HAVING TO READ INTO THE EXPLANATION. UNLIKE SOME OF THE AICPA BOOKS THAT ARE OUT THERE, WHERE IT READS LIKE IT IS IN SOME OTHER LANGUAGE BESIDES ACCOUNTING. IT IS A VERY PRACTICAL GUIDE TO INCREASE THE CORRECT PRESENTATION OF YOUR FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AND ALSO AID IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CORRECT ACCOUNTING FUNCTIONS FOR YOU GOVERNEMTNAL SITUATION.

Already on Holy Ground: Experiencing the Presence in Ordinary Life
Published in Paperback by Hazelden Information Education (01 September, 1996)
Average review score:

The Still Small Voice of TruthJohn Bailey is in touch with a universal truth as he wrote this book. I found it reassuring that a lot of efforting was not the answer to my spiritual growth. His approach is step by step in increasing the awareness of the reader to the idea that "we're already there" and all is needed to "practice the presence". I thoroughly enjoyed reading this comforting book

The American Express Pocket Guide to New York
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (January, 1983)
Average review score:

Clear and convenientThis is the best guide to New York for someone who wants info at their fingertips -- it is clear, well-organized, comprehensive and yet it is truly pocket sized. About 3 in by 7 in, or theirabouts. (which means the type is small, but it is very readable if your vision is good or corrected.) I just wish (HEAR THIS AM EX???) they would publish an updated version! My copy is from 1986 and although the museum and sites info is much the same, the restaurants, hotel and shopping sections are in dire need of new information.

American Nightmares: The Haunted House Formula in American Popular Fiction
Published in Paperback by Popular Press (January, 1999)
Average review score:

a highly readable critique of the haunted house taleBailey writes as you wish all academicians wrote (most, unfortunately, write tortured prose convulsing in theory, all scribbling madly toward tenure); Bailey is a much-needed exception: his prose is accessible; his criticism insightful; his observations often humorous. Dig this penetrating summation of Poe: "...three-fifths genius and two-fifths sheer fudge, that raving lunatic of American letters, that drunken pedophile dying in his Baltimore ditch." American Nightmares is a keen examination of the haunted house story and how it is inherently an American tale, how it is, in fact, a direct and dire result of our everyday obsessions with the American Dream. Bailey takes obvious delight in examining such pop icons as The Haunting of Hill House, The Amityville Horror, Burnt Offerings, and The Shining (and as he does, you can almost hear the wailings and gnashings of teeth from ivory towers across the country). In short, this book is a highly readable, vastly entertaining pop culture manifesto. It's a must-read for any horror aficionado, highly recommended for anyone interested in American lit, and suggested for all entertained by good prose and refreshing insight.

The American Pageant Guidebook, 11th Edition
Published in Paperback by Houghton Mifflin Co (November, 1999)
Average review score:

Tha American Pageant: to 1877This is a wonderful book that can be helpful in many class levels of American History. I personally am using this book in my AP US History class. I find that all facts in the text are completely relavent to the topic being discussed. Bailey also has a way of putting in many little important tidbits and anecdotes that are very humorous and pertain to the subject matter. The book's layout is very well organized. This makes it easy to find any information. In the margins Bailey has put in may quotes from famous historical figures. These quotes always pertain the the subject being discussed and are very helpful when writing essays. The book also does a good job of including the inportance of different ethnic groups in the formation of America.

The American Spirit
Published in Paperback by Houghton Mifflin Co (30 July, 1997)
Average review score:

Great teacher source! This book provides wonderful sources for the middle school classroom. As an 8th grade social studies teacher I would be lost without this book. It provides a great balance for the textbook, and brings history alive for students. Some sources are advanced, but many can be used in an inclusive classroom setting. A perfect choice for any teacher of early American history.

Ansonia Clocks: A Guide to Identification and Price
Published in Paperback by Arlington Book Co (December, 1989)
Average review score:

If you like ANSONIA clocks, you MUST have this book.Tran Duy Ly has a series of clock books for Identification and Pricing. His books are FAR SUPERIOR to ANY other clock book of their type. Whether you're a novice or advanced collector, you cannot do without his guides. His comprehensive guides offer hundreds of photos and illustrations of actual clocks produced from owners and manufacturers original catalogs. His books offer difinitive answers to your questions about authenticity of your prized timepiece. His thorough review of the companies history and other details mandate these books as a requirement for the clock enthusiast. His books picture the various movements that were utilized and even several pendulums. His pricing scheme utilized is NOT based on only one persons opinion to thier value. He involves an international base of "experts" on the chosen topic and through their inputs to the value (from across the U.S. and abroad) arrives at an average value for each clock. Each book contains values for most every model of clock produced by factories such as Gustav Becker and American firms such as Seth Thomas and others. I have been fortunate to be selected to assist Mr. Ly in compiling and pricing several of his books. Having bought and sold in excess of 20,000 antique clocks, I share my knowledge with YOU. Mr. Ly's guides have set the standard for clock identification and pricing. Superior quality in photos, organization, and materials. MARTY & KIM WILKEY

Anthology of Living Religions, An
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall (02 December, 1999)
Average review score:

A Great Survey of Religions of the WorldIn "An Anthology of Living Religions," Fisher and Bailey provide the reader with a great survey of the religions of the world. Each of the traditional religions, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, and Sikhism are explained in great detail through contemporary writers who are experts in the religion they are writing about. Other religions, such as New Religious Movements and The Interfaith Movement, are also dealt with generally. This is a great text if you are looking for a survey of religions. It also satisfies the needs of those who wish to have a reference guide which outlines the basics of world religions readily available for easy reference. After explaining the basics of each religion, and including writings of those familiar with the religion, Fisher and Bailey include a reference to pertinent terms, holy days, a historical outline, and a section listing further readings. There is also a chapter which specifically deals with The Religious Response, defining the philosophy of religion and the need to have religion in our world today. I highly recommend this book.
